Being a musician is one of the hardest things because of the nature of the art: anything we ever do we have to be able to reproduce over and over again. The sad news is that the key to success is endless boring repetition.
This sounds like a terrible idea for many but as a musician, there's no way to sugarcoat this...
Unless you dress up like a unicorn and make your practice session as fun and productive as possible. I will not tell you that there's a right and a wrong way to motivate you to practice. The only thing I can tell you is that you must find a way that gets you into practice mode. To your right (or underneath if you're using a phone) you have a video of an acomplished violinist showing you how she practices. This is Chloe Trevor and I personally follow her on instagram because of two reasons:
- Her feed of live performances is badass: When she is playing with a purpose (e.g. for Astor Piazzolla's birthday) it's simply breathtaking.
- Chloe shows you how she practices: This is inspiring because it helps us understand that practice is a must for all of us at every level.
Therefore, I urge you to do anything you can to improve your practice mindset and time. Follow Chloe, dress like a unicorn, have fun, practice hard, and never stop learning. I'm sure Chloe would say the same thing!
